Eka Pada Adho Mukha Svanasana (One-Legged Down Dog) and a bit about modern yoga history.
🎈
Did you know that this asana is an American invention?
🎈
Based on the foundation of the more traditional Adho Mukha Svanasana - Downward Facing Dog.
🎈
Downward Facing Dog is one of those manny asanas introduced by Krishnamacharya in the mid-20th century and later taught by his pupils Pattabhi Jois and B.K.S. Iyengar.
🎈
The modern asana practice is only inspired by the enchant one.
🎈
We see it as a beautiful progression and adaptation for the modern human needs.

🎈
When practicing this asana - once we lift one leg up - our hips might collapse, leaving the torso and arms unbalanced.
🎈
Make sure to square your hips, to elongate your spine (without sinking in towards the ground), and to activate your shoulders properly by rotating them away from your ears.
🎈
If it’s hard to straighten the standing leg, you could stand on a brick πŸ§± this will help you to elongate the hamstrings and by that squaring your hips better.
🎈
Practicing this asana, among other good things, will strengthen your arms and elongate your hamstrings and hip flexors.
